Master the Art of Being

Not living in the now or understanding the art of just being is one of the major reasons why most people fail to create the lifestyle and success they desire. We are so absorbed with what has happened in the past and how this has affected our present that we allow things that have happened years before to limit our performance and restrict our potential. I often hear stories from people in their late twenties, thirties and even forties, talking about how growing up with an alcoholic father or abusive controlling mother, is holding them back and restricting their performance.

In many cases these parents are no longer a factor in their lives or in some cases the people that affected their lives are not even alive any more. The only way things that happened in your past can affect you in your present, is if you empower the events of the past by allowing yourself to be affected. These long past events or issues can in most cases never happen again. Yet people give them so much power simply because they are not willing to forgive, learn the lesson offered by those events and then move on to a better more productive positive place. You can never drive your car successfully, whilst looking in the rear-view mirror. The same is true for your life. Focus your eyes squarely on the present only glancing back at the past occasionally to ensure that you never repeat any of the mistakes you have made.

Action Idea: Explore your past, discover all the unresolved issues, which are holding you back and limiting your performance. If these issues are the result of things people have done to you or circumstances that have affected you. Write a letter addressed to the issue and once and for all free yourself from the prison you have created for yourself with these events from your past. Nothing from the past has any power over you unless you empower it with constant thoughts and regrets.

The second reason we never get to live in the moment and effectively enjoy and utilise our NOWS, is that we constantly focus on the future. We tell ourselves that when a future event occurs, then we will be happy or content and so we fail to enjoy every step of the journey. This sees us view everything we encounter as something, which is in our way and instead of using our NOWS effectively; we waste them trying to discover ways to get through each experience.

Action Idea: Get a crystal clear vision of the future and see success as a direction and no longer a destination. Enjoy every step of the way, as you travel in the direction you want your life to go and view every event as something positive and ON the way toward the success you desire.

This obsession where you constantly focus on the future never allows you to live in the moment and effectively use your most valuable possession, RIGHT NOW, to your advantage. When we are at home we are still absorbed in our work environment and we are solving all the challenges we are facing at the office and when we are at the office we are constantly focusing on issues at home. This sees us never giving 100 % to anything we do; we are constantly distracted and never able to give our all to anything.

Action Idea: Live in the moment, when you are working give 100 % to your work and switch off from any external distractions. When at home with your family, be there completely and give everything to this NOW. Once perfected, the art of being 100 % in each now, will allow you to exponentially improve your performance

Stop focusing your attention on future possibilities and past experiences, at the expense of being present in the NOW! You can get so absorbed in what happened yesterday and what may happen tomorrow, that you don’t notice that now is slipping by, unused and wasted. Learn the art of being where you are each and every moment and use every NOW as effectively as possible. Focus on the moment and draw from each one all the substance, wealth of experience and possibility you can.
Take the time to just be and watch a sunset, listen to silence and savour every moment. Each moment is unique and special and an integral part of the process of becoming, creating and constantly expanding. Living is not something we do it is something we experience, moment by moment.
