Do You Appreciate Everyone Around You?

Nothing has a greater effect on building relationships than Appreciation

Appreciating others is one of the principles of success, which too many business professionals, neglect on their journey towards sustainable business success. This is often at their own peril as research shows that up to 88% of employees who leave their jobs, do so because they feel unacknowledged and unappreciated. Consider the impact of a lack of appreciation on personal relationships! “Whether you are an entrepreneur, business leader, teacher, parent, coach, or simply a friend, if you want to be successful with other people, you must master the art of appreciation”

Appreciation Builds Influence

If you want to build influence with other people, to create deeper, trusting, mutually beneficial relationships, you must show appreciation. Consider when you’ve been on the receiving end of uncommon appreciation—when someone has made you feel appreciated and special. What was the impact of that act of appreciation on the relationship? How did you feel about that person? How do you feel now about the impact that person has had on your life?

Appreciation Inspires Those Around you

There is a major mismatch in how much employees value appreciation and how much their employers recognize it as important. Studies have shown that employees consistently place “appreciation” as the number one thing that influences their level of motivation. Yet their employers place it as number eight, below wages, job security, opportunities for promotion, and even discipline.

Think about the people who could support you the most, as you travel the path towards the business success you desire. These are the individuals, who will support you to achieve your goals and help you create your ideal life. How do you appreciate them? What kind of impact could an increase in appreciation have on their desire to be a member of your support team?

Individualize your appreciation for the most impact

In order to have the most impact when you practice appreciation, consider the way in which each individual likes to be appreciated. Each person has a dominant way in which their brain takes in information and processes it—auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic. If you are attempting to show appreciation to someone by telling them thank you, yet they are dominantly a visual person and need to see it, your “thank you” won’t have the impact that it could.

Appreciation Activates the Law of Intention

One of the reasons for calling appreciation a “secret” of success, is that it sometimes pays dividends in indirect, yet very real, ways. According to the Law of Intention, we attract more of what we focus our attention on. If we’re constantly focused on the things we don’t like about our lives, we’ll tend to attract more of what we don’t like. Yet if we are in the mode of appreciation and gratitude, focusing on the things we like and appreciate and are grateful for, we’ll attract more of the same into our experience. When we are grateful we also become more “attractive” to others—they want to be around us far more!

Be Generous when showing your Appreciation

Increase your awareness of what others are doing around you. Even if another’s actions don’t directly benefit you, be aware of things others do that you can appreciate. Has someone created a thing of beauty? Did you overhear a mother speaking kindly and patiently to her whining child? Is the clerk in the checkout line dealing with rushed customers with grace? What are the ways that you can be in the mode of appreciation throughout your day? How can you appreciate others around you?

Appreciation Starts with You First

To really enjoy the benefits of showing appreciation, you must learn to show appreciation to yourself first.  In addition to appreciating what’s happening around you, be sure to especially acknowledge and appreciate yourself. Even if you’re showing a lot of gratitude and appreciation for others, when you’re constantly berating yourself or beating yourself up internally, you’re not creating true abundance.

Understanding how to get from mediocrity to super achievement

The best way to convert a fantasy or a dream into a goal, which you can readily achieve, is to write your dream or fantasy down and then to formulate a broad plan to achieve that goal. This simple step begins the process, of goal achievement, by creating something concrete in your mind. This then programs your mind to start looking for opportunities, which are aligned with turning your intangible dreams and fantasies into real and meaningful realized outcomes.

Get Clarity

When you have clarity and you know what you are looking for, it gives your mind a “focused set of eyes” and you begin to see opportunities that were there all along, but you were not seeing them, because you had not programmed your mind to look for them. For example: if you decide to buy a new car, that brand of car seems to miraculously appear everywhere you look. This is the programming and clarity you want to direct onto turning your dreams in reality.

Tell your brain what to look for and it will begin to notice the people, resources and hidden ideas, which you need to turn your thoughts into something real and meaningful. When your dreams are defined by audacious, distant and unclear vague ideas, your mind is thrown off and does not know what to search for. Ambiguity is the biggest killer of dreams and will make achieving your dreams virtually impossible. Until you clarify around what you want, you are wasting your most powerful resource, namely your powerful mind. When it is programmed properly, it will relentlessly search for answers and opportunities to help you succeed.

Give your Mind Clear Instructions

Your mind operates at its most optimal level, when it has clear instructions. This is obvious, try sending someone shopping for you with vague instructions about what you want. What do you think the odds are that they will return with exactly what you want? If on the other hand you clearly write out a list defining exactly what you want. Then the odds are stacked in favour of them returning with exactly what you want. Commit to write out a really clear shopping list for your brain today and over time your brain will deliver exactly that to you.

Create a Strategic Plan

Your clear, precise strategic plan will give your mind a clear set of instructions, so that it can get to work finding the information you need to achieve exactly what you want. Think of your plan in terms of creating a road map, to get you from where you are to where you want to go.

How Long Should it Take?

The first step is to define how long it will take to complete the journey. If you set out on a journey to cross Africa, but you have no specific timeline in mind, you are unable to create a plan. How far do you need to travel each day, when do you need to refuel, where will you sleep each day etc.? The same is true for your goals. If you have a written dream or fantasy, but you do not have a timeline in which you are required to achieve the goal. You have no way of measuring your progress; there is no urgency and pressure to take action.

Break Your Goal into Bite Size Chunks

When you have a timeline for achieving your goals, you can easily break your goal back into achievable bite size chunks and consistently measure your progress. This will help you to stay on track and ensure that the actions you are taking daily are aligned with the outcome you are trying to achieve.

As you travel through Africa o your journey, there are a myriad of routes you could take. Not all of them are as efficient as the each other. The same is true for achieving your goals. There are many different ways of achieving the same outcome, but not all of them are as efficient or effective as the other. It is for this reason that you must clearly define what you need to do each day and also include a timeline, clearly describing, when you will accomplish each step in the process.

What Resources do you need?

On this journey through Africa, you must be clear on who you will be taking along to help you on the trip. Goal achieving is the same, identify and clearly define who you need to assist you and their roles required to do so.

Research and Discover any Possible Challenges

Before embarking on your trip you must research the conditions, route etc. Nobody would attempt to travel through Africa without doing the correct research. It is at your own peril that you will neglect this crucial step when embarking on the most important journey of your life, namely you journey to realize you dreams.

The success of a journey, of the magnitude of traveling through Africa requires acquiring numerous resources. The journey to creating tangible and real goals is no different. Carefully consider all the resources you will need to make the journey from mediocrity to super achievement and then build a plan to bring them into your experience.

Acquire the Knowledge and Skills you need

Any long journey requires special skills and knowledge. So before embarking on your journey to success, take a really hard and in-depth look at yourself and define and make plans to acquire the training, skills and knowledge you will need to succeed.

Think of the goal achieving process as a wonderful journey, which will provide loads of enjoyment and fulfilment. As long as you look on your road to super achievement as a wonderful and very enjoyable journey, you will get to start enjoying your life right now, not one day when you achieve success. Bringing super achievement, meaning and fulfilment is a process, which can and should start right now.

Unlock Your Inner voice and Learn to listen to your Intuition Once Again

The pressures imposed by society and its expectations, regarding anything you can’t touch, feel or see, has forced us to repress our intuition and to stop listening to our inner voice. I hear you asking the question “What inner voice are you talking about”. Well that inner voice that just asked the previous question is the first stage towards knowing and understanding that you do indeed have an inner voice or subtle inner knowing. I like to refer to intuition, as the things you know before you think.

Your intuition or your inner voice, is a really powerful tool, which you have locked away and lost touch with over the years. I want to help you to re-awaken your inner voice or intuition today. Once you learn how to turn the volume up on your intuition and you can once again trust your inner knowing, you will have uncovered a really powerful tool in your success toolkit.

Meditation

The practice of meditation helps you clear away the day to day distractions and if you will just listen and allow, it will also permit you to begin turning up the volume on your intuition. Your intuition is that magical inner voice, which will speak to you and just seems to know the right answer, before you even think. When you can learn to trust your intuition, it will regularly deliver subtle impulses, which will guide you toward the success you desire and keep you on the path towards living your true purpose.

How Does it Work?

There are numerous forms of informal meditation, which will allow you to empty your mind of stressful thoughts, which do not serve you and allow you to hear and listen to your inner self.  The key to meditation is to take time to relax breath, listen and reflect.

How do I do it

The easiest way I have found to get into a relaxed and meditative state is to lie flat on a very comfortable surface, with my legs uncrossed and my arms resting comfortably next to my sides.  I listen to relaxing meditation music, commercially available everywhere. It is really helpful to listen to the music through a good quality pair of head phones or earphones, as this allows you to block out all external noise and focus all your attention on the meditative process. As you lie in a relaxed and peaceful place, concentrate, relax and focus all your attention on only the air flowing through your nostrils as you breathe in and out.

Try not to think about anything other than the air flowing in and out of your nostrils. Completely clear your mind. If any thought comes into your mind, acknowledge it and immediately place your attention back onto the air flowing through your nostrils. It will take a number of sessions, of practice and focus, before you will manage to meditate, relax and stop allowing your mind to wander.

Feel the cool air all the way around both nostrils as it enters through your nose, breathing steadily and rhythmically as you inhale.  Hold the breath for a few seconds and then exhale, concentrating on and feeling the warm air all the way around both nostrils, as the warm air leaves through your nose.

Try not to allow any random thoughts to enter your mind. If any thoughts do enter your mind, acknowledge them and then go straight back to the practice of concentrating on your breathing and all the sensations that go with feeling your breath in your nostrils. Repeat this for several minutes, initially seven minutes will be adequate to achieve good results.

When you become more experienced, meditating for 30 minutes or more will become very therapeutic, relaxing and an excellent way to listen to your inner self.  There are numerous techniques that can help you develop your skills and help you to get the most out of your meditation time.  Advanced meditation is very personal and as such I would recommend that, when you want to ascend to a higher level of meditation, you do some research into the type and style of meditation that best suites you.

Reflect and Ask Questions

During your meditation, try to reflect, ask questions and allow the intuitive impressions to come to you.  Pay special attention to images, words, physical sensations or emotions that you experience.  Record all your insights and impressions, try to understand what they reveal to you and then take action and invite success into your experience

The practice of meditation, like any new skill will take about 45 days to become an entrenched habit and form part of who you are.  Begin today and meditate every day. It is a really powerful process, which will serve you going forward. You already have the answers that you seek, so allow yourself to listen.

Are you Happy with what you See, When you Look in the Mirror?

When you look at yourself in the mirror in the bathroom every morning, do you like what you see? Do you feel satisfied and content that the person staring back at you is living a life of meaning and fulfilment, in all areas of their life? Are you asking yourself questions like, “How did I get here” and then not liking the answer or the picture you get in your mind? Yes I am sure that there are areas in your life that are working and you are on track, but I am sure that there are areas in your life, which you feel could be improved.
The secret to start moving your life back in the direction you want it to go, is to realise that the areas of your life, which are unsatisfactory, did not become like that in an instant. You did not go to sleep one night with everything on track and wake up the next morning in a very different place. The way our lives go off track, is as a result of one small bad decision at a time. The gradual decline in our lives is the result of numerous poor decisions repeated over a very long time.
Does your Tyre have a Slow Puncture?
The flat tyre we experience in our life is the result of a very slow puncture and very seldom the result of a blow-out. The slow leaks of air from your tyre, every day or rather the poor decisions, where you felt it was better to enjoy pleasure in the moment and to watch 5 hours of television every night, rather than reading and educational, inspirational or transformational book. All add up over time into the unsatisfactory results you get to enjoy.
So if your tyre is flat because of years of neglect and poor decisions, today is the day to finally make a better choice and to choose to replace the tyre, with a new version. One, which will make better choices and eliminate all bad choices, one which will apply daily discipline to everything they do and slowly pull their life back on track. You can’t change the fact that the tyre has gone flat or even the way it went flat, but you can choose to replace the tyre and make better choices from this moment forward.
Reverse the Damage
The beauty of this process, where you slowly moved yourself off track, with consistent poor decisions and got yourself into a place you did not like. Is that it does not only work to destroy, it can also be used in a positive fashion to build too. Make the right decision today and remove your need for instant gratification, accept that by delaying your gratification and introducing a dose of daily discipline, you can gradually pull your life back on track.
My message today is really simple. If you are not happy with the person, who stares back at you in the mirror every morning, then it is time to make that crucial shift away from neglect and consistent poor choices, towards daily discipline and positive activity. Do not wait until your tyre is completely flat, before you begin the journey to get your life back on track. Make a positive choice right now and use the very gradual process, which got you into the place you hate, to slowly and inexorably move you back on track. Those daily positive actions, when repeated over time will gradually re-inflate your tyre and put you on the path of success and meaning.
Action Idea:
Know what you want
Examine your life. “Do you have that in your life right now”?
If you do not, then examine your daily routine. Is it aligned with what you want?
If not introduce a few new daily habits to support your vision and goals.
Keep taking action, every day.
Measure your progress
Reward your progress
Gradually pull your life back on track

This process is really simple to do, but unfortunately, it is also easy not to do. Make the choice to finally get your life back on track. Make the few crucial changes you need to make today and over time you will gradually evolve into the person you want to be.
